• Regular testing and maintenance records (typically weekly tests and annual servicing)

• Clear audibility in all areas, including high-noise environments

• Proper signage and accessibility of manual call points

Any deficiencies—such as faulty detectors, poor coverage, or lack of maintenance—must be addressed promptly to ensure occupants can evacuate safely.

Fire Extinguishers:
Fire extinguishers provide a means to control small fires before they escalate. The FRA assesses whether:

• The correct types of extinguishers are provided (e.g., water, CO₂, foam, powder) based on fire risks present

• Extinguishers are suitably located (easily accessible, visible, and near escape routes)

• Equipment is clearly labeled with instructions for use

• Units are regularly inspected (monthly visual checks and annual professional servicing)

• Staff are trained in safe and appropriate use

Incorrect placement, lack of maintenance, or unsuitable extinguisher types can significantly reduce effectiveness and pose additional risks.
